The Start of Captain Hook
The history of the Captain Hook starts in 1996 when legendary Captain Ron Hamlin brought this beautiful boat to Guatemala. On its first voyage, he set the first record at the time with 66 sailfish in a day, which was the beginning of many glorious days.
In 1997, conservation for billfish changed forever when Capt. Ron decided to change the ‘J’ hooks for the ‘Circle’ hooks full time. Eventually, all fleets in Guatemala adopted this idea, and years later almost all charter boats for billfish are using this method worldwide.
This is a method the Captain Hook continues to use today, not only to help lower billfish injury but also to continue setting high records as before.
More than 25 years later, the Captain Hook continues to provide a great sportfishing experience that anyone can enjoy, continuing the legacy that Captain Ron Hamlin left with this amazing beauty.
About Capt. Eddie Bairez
Captain Eddie Bairez started on the Captain Hook back in 1998 as a mate for Captain Ron Hamlin until 2006. At this time, he ran his first boat for a short time before returning to the Captain Hook to run it full time.
In 2017, he went to explore in the Indian Ocean, for a brief period before Covid struck, causing the project to fall through.
Now in 2021, he has returned to the Captain Hook to, not only run it full time once again, but also be more involved on the business side of things.
